Keauhaka Meals Project

Keauhaka Meals Project
Aloha Hilo Yacht Club Ohana,

I hope this letter finds you safe and well. Perhaps you have been wondering about our Club’s future during these unprecedented and difficult times. As Commodore, I want to reassure you and your family that our Club will persevere, continue, and grow.
Please refer to the letter below detailing an important foodservice project for our local community. This project, put together by Trustees, Club Members and HYC Staff, in a very short time, shows our commitment to being part of the future of our community. We are all going through challenging times but our Club will endure and this project, thanks to Misti, Bree, Thomas, Andy, Marcus, and Chuck, proves it.

You make the difference in our Club and our community.

Britta Zimmer-Long
Hilo Yacht Club Commodore

Aloha Members,
It is during these trying times that we must reflect on our blessings and be thankful for the food in our bellies and roofs above our heads. Unfortunately, our local community has been hit hard by the economic impact of COVD-19 business closures and not all people have the blessing of a full belly or family support to get through these hard times.

As a club, we are grateful to have one of the most beautiful locations in Keaukaha and now it is our turn to give back to the community in which we reside. The Keaukaha community has a large number of Kupuna and Keiki that are lacking healthy food options, especially after social services dry up.

We in conjunction with local Rotary Clubs and The Hawaii Rise Foundation have started a food service program that will feed hundreds of Keaukaha families each weekend. We have applied for numerous grants to help fund the project but we need seed money to make sure we can launch the program as planned on Friday, April 17th and are calling on our members for donations.

Please visit to make an online donation and in the memo section please notate that you are a Hilo Yacht Club Member. Hawaii Rise Foundation is a non-profit so your donations are tax-deductible and if you do make a donation you will receive a thank you letter and receipt for your records.

If you are not able to contribute financially but would like more information on the project and other ways you might be able to help please contact Misti Tyrin or Breeani Sumera-Lee

Mahalo in advance for your support and Kokua for the Keaukaha Community. Stay Safe and Be Well!
