Club Update: August 4, 2020

Aloha HYC Ohana,

The Hilo Yacht Club Pool officially reopened on August 1st under COVID-19 restrictions set by the Hawaii Health Department.

It has been wonderful seeing members and families enjoying the swimming pool again! Due to high demand, I am happy to report that on Friday, August 7th, we will be extending the pool hours, adding a 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM reservation block.

Some of you reached out recently asking for clarification on the rules and booking procedures. What follows are the most recent policies designed to keep the pool open for our members while at the same time following the latest COVID-19 guidelines.

Reservations for adult lap swimming, general swimming, table, lounger, and grill can only be made by calling the HYC office between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Reservations cannot be taken by email or phone message.
You must speak with Cheryl directly to make a reservation by calling 969-6663 X 7.
If she does not pick up, please leave a message and she will call you back.
Please remember pool use bookings cannot be made during times when the office is closed.

It is our goal to make the HYC pool available to as many members as possible without violating COVID-19 social distancing rules. Violations could result in the closure of the HYC pool, so it is very important for all members to understand and follow the rules for the benefit of the club and your fellow members.

Pool Hours:
Adult Lap Swimming: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Pool Cleaning and Sanitizing M, W, F: 10 AM to 11 AM. Pool Closed for an hour.
General Pool Use: 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. (changes August 7th)
Members can book the pool for the following two-hour blocks of time:
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Starting Friday, August 7th, general pool use will run 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM
We are adding another time slot:  6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Total member capacity inside the pool fence is limited to 20 persons to comply with mandatory social distancing requirements.

Members ONLY at this time. No guests are allowed.

Members can reserve access to the pool for up to two consecutive hours at a time. Currently, we are booking the pool for one week in advance. For example, if you swim every day at 11 AM, you can book that time daily, for a week.

The poolside grill is operational and ready for your use, but you must bring and use your own serving utensils.

Members must follow all rules and safety measures while using The Club pool. Guidelines will be posted on the pool bulletin board. Violations may result in membership suspension.

Please be patient and flexible with your desired pool use time. While we try hard to accommodate everyone, your day and time choice may not be available.

Members should arrive no more than 5 minutes before their reserved time slot and must leave immediately when their time is up. If you are more than fifteen minutes late for your scheduled time, you may lose your slot.

Locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers are open but limited to four members at any time.

The pool deck and surrounding equipment will be disinfected every morning prior to opening.

High touch areas such as ladder rails, handles, and other items will be wiped down between bookings.

Social distancing (maintaining at least six fee distance from others, not in your family group) must be maintained on the pool deck and in the pool.

Large groups and parties (10 or more people) are not allowed at this time.

If you notice behavior that is a concern, please speak to HYC staff. Do not confront, discipline, or otherwise correct another member.

Parents are required to monitor and enforce social distancing practices for their children when using either pool and/or while on the pool deck to maintain the social distance of 6 feet from non-family swimmers.

Full beverage and meal service is available poolside.

No swim toys of any kind are permitted in the pool. Inflatable devices or noodles that are used for exercise or training are exempted. Sharing is not permitted.

Mahalo to everyone for working together, having compassion, patience and understanding as we strive to keep Hilo Yacht Club open and safe for our families, fellow members, and staff.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon and your Club!

Chuck
