Aloha HYC Ohana,

It has been wonderful seeing members and families enjoying the swimming pool again! Due to high demand, I am happy to report we have extended the pool hours, adding a 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM reservation block. Kip has also changed his pool cleaning schedule and we have added an additional hour block to the morning adult swim time, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Some of you reached out recently asking for clarification on the rules and booking procedures. What follows are the most recent policies designed to keep the pool open for our members while simultaneously adhering to the latest COVID-19 guidelines set by the Hawaii Health Department.

The most often asked question continues to be whether members are allowed to bring guests.  As of today, August 17, 2020, the HYC pool is reserved for members only. Guests are not allowed.  We acknowledge this rule is causing some member upset.  The Trustees are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and may allow guests in the future.

Reservations for adult lap swimming, general swimming, table, lounger, and grill use must be made by calling the HYC office between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Reservations cannot be taken by email or phone message. You must speak with Cheryl directly to make a reservation by calling 969-6663 X 7. If she does not pick up, please leave a message and she will call you back. We are currently researching an online reservation system.

On weekends, you may call to check with the bartender to see if there have been any cancellations or if there is pool availability. We can sometimes accommodate last-minute requests for swimming pool access, as long as the total membership count does not exceed 20 persons.

Pool Hours:
Adult Lap Swimming: 6 AM to 11 AM. One-hour block of time.
General Pool Use: 11 AM to 8:30 PM. Two-hour block of time.
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Surface Cleaning takes place between bookings.

It is our goal to make the HYC swimming pool available to as many members as possible without violating COVID-19 social distancing rules. Violations could result in the closure of the HYC pool, so it is very important for all members to understand and follow the rules for the benefit of the club and your fellow members.

Total member capacity inside the pool fence is limited to 20 persons to comply with mandatory social distancing requirements.

Members ONLY at this time. No guests are allowed.

Members can reserve access to the pool for up to two consecutive hours at a time. Currently, we are booking the pool for one week in advance. For example, if you swim every day at 11 AM, you can book that time daily, for a week.

If you made a reservation and have a change of plans, please let us know so we can open your time slot for another member.

The poolside grill is operational and ready for your use, but you must bring and use your own serving utensils.

Members must follow all rules and safety measures while using The Club pool. Guidelines will be posted on the pool bulletin board. Violations may result in membership suspension.

Please be patient and flexible with your desired pool use time. While we try hard to accommodate everyone, your day and time choice may not be available.

Members should try and arrive no more than 5 minutes before their reserved time slot and must leave immediately when their time is up.  We understand that with all the road construction taking place, you may face long traffic delays.

Locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers are open.

The pool deck and surrounding equipment will be disinfected every morning prior to opening.

High touch areas such as ladder rails, handles, and other items will be wiped down between booking times. That’s one reason for the half-hour space between reservations.

Social distancing (maintaining at least six fee distance from others, not in your family group) must be maintained on the pool deck and in the pool.

Large groups and parties (10 or more people) are not allowed at this time.

If you notice behavior that is a concern, please speak to HYC staff. Do not confront, discipline, or otherwise correct another member.

Parents are required to monitor and enforce social distancing practices for their children when using either pool and/or while on the pool deck to maintain the social distance of 6 feet from non-family swimmers.

Full beverage and meal service is available poolside daily until 5:00 PM.  After this time (Tuesday to Saturday) bar window service is available.

No swim toys of any kind are permitted in the pool. Inflatable devices or noodles that are used for exercise or training are exempted. Sharing is not permitted.
